We've often said that there are a number of "sensei" players in our community, who seem to have mastered one class especially well. I also know that a number of the newer folks could benefit from their advice. Perhaps we can bring the two together somehow?
I can see it already...
"Learn to pop heads with ease! Under the guidance of .: sora, you'll learn to:
* Take out cloaked spies by shooting blindly at corners! * Engage in counter-productive sniper wars, and win! * Find 101 new uses for the Razorback!
And much more! Special guest lecturer Crawfish Man will be there to teach you how to found your own hate club with your new-found Sniping skills! Register today!"
Or perhaps something like...
"Need a break, but feel like you aren't getting the most out of it? Can't spec for more than five minutes at a time? FadedOasis can help! In his 4-hour Expert Spectator Master Class, you'll pick up the skills you need to:
* Go into spectate! * Get the most out of your AFK time! * Engage in idle banter on the server, without playing the game!
And this is just the first hour! Slots are limited, on a first-come basis!"
Thoughts? :3
PS I AM A LOSER AND FADED AGREES.

I think this is a great idea. I am fairly new to the game and recognize that there is really only one class I play well. That being said there are a couple other classes that I have a strong interest in "learning the ropes" on so to speak. Partnering up with someone for a couple games to get some pointers could go a long way towards steering the new players (or just class switchers) in the right direction.

Can you really teach sniper?
"Get better twitch aim." "..." "Class dismissed."
I'm kidding, obviously.
If you want people to attempt to teach things, I'd be a good mentor for wanna-be medics and maybe for scouts (though I can think of a million better scouts than me).
Also, I need to lrn2demo. Plzhelpkthxbai.

PS I AM A LOSER AND FADED AGREES.You say that in jest, but I actually do have trouble spectating. I'll make toast and say to myself "I can just drop into spectate and watch other people play for a couple of minutes while I eat". I always end up with cold toast :(

Lesson 1: Reflect 1000 rockets Lesson 2: Reflect 1000 pipe bombs Lesson 3: Use a mid-air soldier's rocket to reflect rocket jump towards him, nail him with a flare gun, and axetingusher him while on a unicycle and not spilling your tea. Lesson 4: 14th Century Pyro History
Believe me, you will wish Lesson 3 was the end once I'm through drilling you in the first 15 Pyro Popes.

So it seems like there's some interest in this. For those who would be taking lessons, what sort of format would be most appealing to you?
Those interested in giving lessons, is there any way you'd prefer to teach?

I'd suggest rocket jumping lessons on rj_rocketeer (or however it's spelled) and the pass once they beat the map.

If I'm teaching Scoots, I'd probably want to do it one at a time so they get hands-on experience against me one on one at first. I'm sure I could give pointers to a larger group, but I would want to be able to password lock a server so there's no random interruptions. For medics, I would need not only a pupil, but enemies to work with as well.

I'd like to know what tips you have for other scoots there Rhench, I have a HELL of a time teaching people how to play the class.
Probably because what I think is common sense really isnt, unless you play scout consistantly. I'd like to pick your brain about it later.
For teaching... I guess it would have to depend on the skills which I want to empart on someone. For example, Scoot duels I'd lock to about 5-6 other people, go over the basics and then have them mock duel each other. Most of my tips would need 2-3 helpers to fill in on the server for demenstration. (like medic hunting, heavy evasion etc)

A lot of my tips are helping to teach the common sense that new Scouts don't have yet. And I suck at Scout duels, though I'm gradually improving, as I can beat KidCanada about 1/2 the time now. We'll chat, Wacky. Maybe we can team-teach if we gel enough on our methods.

Even having the time to simply practice reflecting rockets would be more than helpful. I know some days I can reflect those things left and right and others I can't quite get the timing right. We can also discuss general tips and strategy here in the forums with relative ease. Probably in the as-of-yet unused TF2 forum.

We'll chat, Wacky. Maybe we can team-teach if we gel enough on our methods. If you need more Scatterguns for this, I'd be happy to contribute. Having started in games where all of the action is as fast as Scoot, I can definitely give pointers on things like heckling and taking down priority targets. So it sounds like we're looking at locking down the server, and having more structured lessons. Docs, I love the rocket-jumping idea too, and as a former flag carrier in 2k4CTF, I have a thing for trick jumps myself. :3 Later today, I'll post a signup thread to match mentors with students. We may want to run our lessons concurrently, too - for instance, I might teach a Scout how to ambush a Medic, while Rhench teaches someone else how to counter with defensive movement and situational combat-Medicing.

So it occurs to me that some sort of controllable , multi-player demo system would be well received. It'd be cool to be able to playback a recorded demo, with multiple people connected in ghost mode. Taking it a step further, give one or more people the ability to pause, rewind, fast-forward the playback. I'd imagine it'd be super-useful for this kind of thing, as well as clan strategising and game analysis. Someone tell Valve to get on that.

i'm so far ahead of all of you, I've already written a concise, complete, proven-to-be-effective medic guide:
1: heal people on your team 2: run away from people not on your team 3: there is no part 3

Answer: take away the Huntsman. That guy is a jerk with the bow. To be fair, it takes me like an hour of fail-snipering every time before I can start getting reliable kills with that thing. Oh, and the secret to avoid getting hit by the bow is to not run in a straight line. If the sniper can't predict where you're going to be when the bow hits it's pretty much impossible to connect. Well, aside from the occasional lucky shot :P

It's about time, the old demo format is somewhat sad in that it only records what you see. Plus new things tend to break it; I've had problems with jarate and demos and it is not what you are thinking, you terrible person.

My dream would be to get lessons on how to make people cry as a soldier by Kungfu. There's just something about that guy that makes his rockets just hurt so much more

This sounds cool. Is this still open? I have been playing demo alot and have been learning how to sticky jump. Thats pretty cool. Still don't get how to rocket jump though.
Also learning spy and scout, and well pretty much anything is cool by me.

This seems to be old and I haven't heared it mentioned much. If it was/is still happening/going to happen I would/would have like/ed to try some of the scout (I play scout alot but I'm not that good). I'd like to say I wouldn't need it for medic, but that may be a lie. If it is for competetive/scrim situations, I would like it if some one offered calling classes.
But I think this died.
