I am in need of a program. What is the best tool for writing TV shows and Movies to DvD. I want them to be playable in a conventional DvD player. I am not sure what format/program/disc type to use. Any info is appreciated.
Danke, Cheesecake.

Do I burn it using that, or do I just use the windows one?

www.dvdflick.net/All in one encoding/burning tool. One thing it won't handle though, is softsubs, you can add sub files to a video file, but it can't take an .mkv with imbedded subtitles and have it include them automatically in the final product. For the simpler stuff I've yet to find anything that does it better though.

Okay, use Shirukii's thing. Mine is more for converting the file to work on mobile devices like iPods or Zunes.

Nero, which typically comes with a dvd writer has never let me down.

If you were looking to backup a DVD collection, you could use: DVD Shrink-or- DVDFab

ConvertXToDVD will handle almost any format, including .mkv with softsubs. I swear by it. Trial's free, and if you PM me, I can give you a workaround for afterwards.

Dvdshrink is no longer updated, I used that for years until they stopped updating the software, then switched to DvdFab, been using it for years now as well. Cannot have a simpler program.

Why not just use two discs? Is the economy so bad that you need to save the $0.20?
Also, DVDs hold 4.7 GB. Dual-Layer DVDs hold more than 9 GB.

(By the way thanks for all the information, Greatly appreciated) Try Windows Media Encoder? It's supposed to be the best... Or it was 5 years ago... Nevertheless, it's probably, by far, the best that you could find without forking out ludicrous $. If you don't have Windows Media Encoder, you can get it here. Note that Windows Media Encoder is not yet, nor probably will be, supported on Windows 7, and to run it on Vista you need to install the hotfix (and pretty much everything else you find on this blogpost actually) (I can't remember which system you're running right now :/). Either way, to compress 8gb of movie-quality media will not be instant... If you can, just follow Faded's advice and use 2 disks, or a dual-write disk.

If you have Win 7 Pro, you also get Windows XP compatibility mode.
