So. I played all 5 campaigns on l4d2, and I was extremely satisfied. I had my doubts, but I was really surprised with how awesome and unique all the campaigns were. I was so excited to play versus.
So, I got my dream team together and we played Dark Carnival on versus.
And holy fucking god am I dissapointed. It was awful. I could list every single thing wrong with it, but I don't feel like it.
I think the IDEA of the new infected is awesome, but in my opinion, they don't work very well. Sometimes they do, but generally not. Im hoping and praying it just takes getting used to, but I don't feel like that's the case.
Another problem I have is the scoring. The other team could do a million times better than you, but because there's not a health bonus added into the score, you're matched pretty evenly. Even if your entire team dies, and the other team makes it.
This might come in handy when it comes to ragequits. If the other team is dominating, the scores are still somewhat close, so there's less of a chance for a team to feel fed up.
But on the other hand, If I were the other team, and we did awesome, until the finale, where the other team somehow pulls it off and beats us, I'd be pretty pissed. I like the health bonus, even with massive amounts of rage quits like there were on l4d.
Anyone else play versus and have a similarly god-awful experience?
Even the old infected don't work right.

It sucks dick.
Yeah, the old infected need fixing. The smoker has way more fail pulls than ever in l4d1 and the distance the hunter can jumped was nerfed extremely for no reason.
Lack of health bonus adds to a huge lack of motivation. It doesn't matter if a tank destroys everyone's health if they can just heal and suffer no repercussions.

Versus has always sucked. You get points for time, so the strategy is always "RACE TO THE FINISH."

Versus in regular l4d is fun, in my opinion.

I've only played scavenge thus far as far as competitive modes go, and I loved every second of it. As Scrambles said, "It's like they took everything that's good about versus and put it in this mode."

Perhaps i am naive, but i have played versus almost exclusively since the game came out. I god damned love it.
It may be perhaps how new the infected are and it may get repetitive after a while but it has been great. This fascination may be due to the fact that i never really got into L4D's versus.
The new infected add some variety to taking down the survivors and the game really does a great job of putting you in the persona of a man growing tentacles out of his face.
One again, Strictly opinion.

I really haven't played Vs yet, but I like the new infected so far! I thought the infected were going to be hard to play, and even harder to play against, but It works pretty well in my humble scavenge opinion.

Plus setting up wicked combo takedowns is amazing. Bowl 'em all over with the Charger, ride one off into the sunset with a Jockey, spit on their gas cans, just have a grand old time. I also like that there's more options now, especially if you can't ever have more than one of a single kind of infected. There's different types of traps to hatch, and you can still get the ultra combo, only it's no longer 3 hunters 1 smoker, but smoker, jockey, charger, hunter. All get their pin move on, and it's still over. But the Spitter and Boomer still have some pretty awesome teamwork potential too. I'm looking forward to testing it out this weekend.

Unless of course the charger gets stuck on a random corner that you shouldn't have even run into and then you look like a FOOL. And as a spitter you aim somewhere perfect and it goes in the completely OPPOSITE direction

So why do you guys like scavenge rather than versus? They are very similar. Think of versus as more of the time trial and scavenge as sort of defending an area. I have played a bit of scavenge today and it is rather formulaic. But i suppose versus is the same way.

And then I played versus. I have no issues with it so far, but then I don't get the hunter much. It was tons a fun. You guys who don't think so are lame.

Yeah I played as well, and the only thing that bothered me was that a good number of my smoker pulls were not taking. I think it's because they make the hit detection on the tongue "better" (speaking from a survivor bullets hit detection). Other then that it's fun, especially when I punched someone to death as a charger after missing them, that was good.

I still don't see the stigma around playing Left 4 Dead 2.

So have all those naysayers and whiners stopped boycotting it?

Most of them 'boycotted' before it was released, and then gave in in the first week it was out anyway, methinks. And 9, sora has the game, he's just too busy to play. He's not in your club.

I finally have the game, so I expect to play it over the next few days! As for the L4D2 boycott, that closed down in October, at least the official one. I personally think it was a load of hot air that accomplished nothing (and I can support that as necessary), but whatever. And surprise, people are still angry on the internet. Edit: PLURAL WAS MISLEADING

True and false. I think 9 is referring to the fact that the last several times we tried playing L4D, without fail, the experience was so rage-inspiring we were left wondering why we hadn't uninstalled. But, the fact that the mechanics have changed to discourage the corner-humping clusterfuck that is the original is enough to draw a second look from me, so we'll see how it goes. :]
