I think melee sudden death on maps that allow sudden death would be fun. And yes I know some classes would be overpowered but that doesn't bother me. Faded seemed indifferent about it when I asked him so what does everyone else think?

Personally, I'm against it, as it turns all that work of the last 20 minutes into a game of chicken between two Chargin' Targe Demos. Besides, there aren't that many maps that even have sudden death. A/D maps and PL maps can never be ties and KotH just goes into overtime. That leaves CTF and standard CP, but only when the round clock runs out and not the map clock. Given that it almost never happens, I think being thrown into melee-only-mode would be disorienting every time it comes up.
Note: My opinion isn't the only one that matters. Post here to be heard, no matter what side of the debate you are on.

But if it does happen in CTF and standard CP it helps, I think.

It makes the sudden death round shorter. A server I used to allways play on made use of it, but we also tested out and played in a huge number of custom cp maps all the time, so we ended up with a lot of sudden death endings. I'm on the fence about it, but leaning towards keeping it as it is now.

Hydro still won't be tolerable, and I agree with Faded that it makes the previous time meaningless. Especially with super-powerful melee weapons in the mix like the Targe/Eyelander, Targe/Skullcutter, Pickaxe and some others, I'm against it.

That is true, I was playing this back when the worst was the KGB and we didn't let anyone play heavy during sudden death anyway.

So if I'm counting correctly, we're leaning away from melee sudden death. I'll leave it off for now, but if someone comes up with a compelling argument, I will absolutely switch it to on.

Melee-only on it's own is unbalanced and annoying. Monoclass melee-only, now, there's something I would advocate.

Well, when the game comes down to sudden death I don't really care if I win or lose; I play for fun, and imo a melee-fest is fun. And really, how often does sudden death come up (besides Hydro) However if you all don't like it that's ok, i'm not fanatical about it.

Who has been in a server where after twenty minutes both teams are frustrated. The round goes into sudden death. Everyone rolls out with the targe demos leading the charge. Everyone starts smacking each other until it comes down to a few survivors. Maybe it's a soldier with a pickax and he kills three people in three swings and wins the round. Or a targe demo who wins the match with a full range, multi-level, around-the-corner eyelander to the neck. Without melee sudden death this can't happen.

I think I agree with scrambles, if a roud goes to sudden death, I'm not really concerned with winning/losing. Obviously the teams were balanced enough (or camped enough) to not be able to beat the other. A little melee nonsense at the end of stalemate is usually nice to get me wound up for the next map, rather than just be exhausted by a 30 minute camp fest.
And usually I end up with an axtinguisher for melee sudden death.

Brian, if sudden death ever happens, you won't be headed to the next map, you'll be staying on the current map. Sudden death only happens if the round timer hits zero, not the map timer.

Can't do mono-class without an additional plugin, and I'm not going to install a plugin for something that happens about once a month.
However, I will implement melee sudden death.
