lol, very nice trade on your end, Jeziah. Usually you'd only get Poker Night with the ten gallon or baker boy, but L4D2 costs 4x as much and you got so much more.

L4D2 was on sale when I made the trade. The first trade I made (for L4D2), the guy gave me the game as we were in the trading session, and in the second one the guy gave them to me immediately after.

People are trading games for hats all over the Steam User trading forums, especially with the recent Steam deals that made games really cheap. It's trade at your own risk though, but if you have already had multiple trades like this before, people use references to know if you're trustworthy.
For instance, so far I have traded a vModest Pile for Poker Night and last night I got the Indie Air Pack for myself plus KOTOR for my brother with just 4 refined. In all those trades I got the game first then opened a trade in TF2 to send my items, without any issues. Although, I did come across somebody who attempted to scam me out of my earbuds and if I hadn't been adamant about getting the game first he would have likely ran off with them. I ask for the game first and I have the references of previous trades to support me and I can always point them here and to the other communities that I regularly attend so they can get more personal references or have the option to besmirch my name if I were to somehow scam them (social collateral).
Once you get a reputation for being good at this, then people will start coming to you more. I saw some guy get like 40 responses in a few hours because he was buying games for hats and after the first few trades people realized he was trustworthy and swarmed him. I myself am hopefully getting Mass Effect 2 for a couple fairly valuable hats later tonight as well.
