Every time you load an update page, some server-side script checks to see if you randomly load a page with easter eggs or not. That's how we found all the other secrets.
Wish I had found this one, though.

I think I got it, but I can't find where it's supposed to be in TF2. I hope I didn't muck it up by using my browser and not the steam client

I've heard it described as "one big F U" to players outside of American timezones.

I thought it was a phishing site when someone sent me a link (I was to busy playing to check if it was real). I think VALVe plans on conditioning players to sign into things like this so then more people will lose acounts and will be forced to rebye.... Sneaky VLAVe...Sneaky...

it says "better luck next time" which I assume means they'll either offer these or another item again, or maybe even through a different medium.

carbon, the medals will be "shipped out" in a couple of days. If you think you got one, you got one.

I don't see the point, i am not impressed by a medal. If a soldier kills me and hes wearing a saucepan i will respond accordingly. But not a medal. Medals=First edition Pokemon cards:Nobody cares and they will never be worth money.

... and they will never be worth money. I'll be sure to remind you of that once a trading system gets implemented. In any case, I'm disappointed I missed out and so plan to try to get one 'next time'. Unfortunately, that apparently requires sitting on the update page at the right time, continually ctrl+F5ing in the hopes that the webserver randomly grants me a link. Well, that or sit in the steam forums for the night. *shudder*

One hot summer's day a Fox TF2 player was strolling through an orchard internets till he came to a bunch of Grapes Gentle Manne's Service Medals just ripening on a vine which had been trained over a lofty branch. "Just the thing to quench my thirst pwn some nubs," quoth he. Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel Gentle Manne's Service Medal, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: "I am sure they are sour."
who knew that Gentle Manne's Service Medals grew on limited-edition vines
