As the title says, I am. As such I'm curious what the mkwea community does for a living. I know some of you are still in school (myself including {U of I}] and don't therefore work for a living but hey whatever. I work at a museum www.spurlock.illinois.edu/ and I like my job, even though I occasionally become bored like now. I catalog all the artifacts in the "vault", in fact I just got done with this one www.spurlock.illinois.edu/search/index.php?q=2000.17.0091&g=All&Search=Search. It's cool cuz I get to see alot of stuff the teeming unwashed masses don't get to see. Now you can ask me more about what I do or tell me what you do, I don't care either way, my boredom has now been satiated.

Web Designer/Developer, specializing in Information Architecture and User Experience. Although I do have a business as a freelance consultant, I've been doing a lot of work for the college lately as a Teaching Assistant and a Drupal developer, trying to pay for the last semester of my Master's in Information Technology (concentrating in HCI).
tl;dr - I build websites and make them more usable.

I'm a metropolitan planner for the Rockford Metropolitan Agency for Planning. Mostly we deal with the transportation network and federally required documents for MPO's. I'm mostly the tech guy at work; I run the website and do a lot of work with Illustrator, Photoshop, and some other stuff.

Ever heard of Mercury Insurance? I'm a Business Analyst for the Billing systems. Mostly boring, but I like to do research and there's a lot of it for this. Also I get to play with SQL commands some!

I'm a 'Programmer Analyst' (computer programmer) for SED Systems. I help build specialty software for businesses that deal primarily with satellites. Probie: At my last job I had to build a billing system, or at least software to manage one. Not fun. And that's all I'll say on the matter, or I'll be ranting for hours.

I currently work part-time at Gamestop, with plans to go back to school soon.
(As an aside, in the past I've worked software engineering down at U of I for the chemistry department. I found it to be quite frustrating.)

University Student, I'm hoping to schmooze my way into a job with tech support so I can answer phones and tell old people that they should restart their computer and the problem will fix itself.

I believe you, I'm a ChemE and working with the chem computers is a pain in the ass. Like SCI finder is just unwieldy. Well, I didn't actually use those computers, we had our own equipment. That is, while we were developing tools for chemists, all but the heads of the project weren't chemists themselves. Oh yeah, you're down at U of I aren't ya? The tools I've worked on were more for the professors and grad students doing mass spectrometry on protein strains, mainly for a group headed by a Neil Kelleher. So...kinda specific. But if you ever do run across a tool called ProSight then know that I've had a hand in its development.

i get payed to play music at funerals, wedings, and the like. (mostly funerals) it makes me happy to be able to say "yah, i make 100+ dollars an hour. so what?" but, then i realize i havent played a gig in three weeks and have 20 dollars in my wallet.
i am going to a music school and will be majoring in music tech.
i am hoping to get a "real job", as some have put it, and hope to work at a place that doesnt sell food.
anyway, i play music, a lot. and get payed for it.
