I feel like running an event, and since I've been playing with bots recently, I figured I'd run one of these. Let's get a team of humans and try beating some bots! There's one problem, the bots still need some work to be comparable to be humans, since they don't use unlockables and get very confused around Spies. See this chart: Maps: Viaduct, Sawmill, Nucleus The server will be locked. Password will be beatthosebots. Thursday, January 21st, 6pm Central Time (7ET, 4PT). Show up early if you want to play. If it goes well, I'll be running more in the future, so don't fret if you can't make this one.

Ill be there. I haven't played with bots yet, so this should be fun.

I would almost say spies should be forbidden. Bots just don't check spies, and instantly believe all Dead Ringer deaths.

I'm going to run the event as posted above, but I will definitely tweak the numbers before the next event if you're right, Rhench.

Thinking about it further, I'm interested to see how this goes. If it's still fairly balanced, I'd love to see a more aggressive imbalance, like MANS*1.5 Something to really encourage teamwork when you're severely outnumbered by the bots!

Yeah, I was planning on doing that eventually. If MANS*1.2 turned out to be slightly too hard, I wouldn't tweak it until TEAM MANS wins a game.

Maybe I'm masochistic, but it would be cool to have a L4D-esque survival mode, since it's KOTH, you only have to survive for 3 minutes... unless you lose the point. Especially something like Viaduct, that has ammo near the point, but health's further away. No respawn, and the bots come from BOTH SIDES! Realistically, I don't think that's something that could be done without heavily modifying the map itself, but why not?

Oh MANS! I missed it... How did it go? Worthy of a round two?

I think the consensus was... we'd like to do it again. At the end, we were doing almost 1.5 bots per man and it was a blast.

I'm a little busy until February, but I'll definitely run another one of these before February 6th.
I greatly overestimated how weak the bots were. The problem with the event is that people kept trying to join too late, when we didn't have room for any more. Bots take up server slots, which is why the above chart never went above 10 versus 12, since that takes up the 22 non-reserve player slots. When I tweak the numbers, the maximums will probably be 9 versus 15, to take up all 24 server slots. When I actually schedule the event, show up early or you won't get a spot! (I may schedule two runs of the event close together, with signups or something.)

Perhaps another thing that might be worth trying: mixing in one or two mans with the bots. That way the MANS team may still have to keep an eye out for spies and the like.
But all in all, this event was great fun.

I'm amazed at how well the bots have been dealing with spies. I must have either been off my game or they got better or something. Spy wasn't a cakewalk, and they chase your ass down a lot better than I thought they did. We were actually over 1.5xMANS=BOTS for a while there, and it was especially rough when there were 3+ BOT engineers on Sawmill. The fuck, they were building like maniacs.

Yah, last time I played against bots they worked fine against spy. They spychecked and tried to follow you cloaked just like any human player, but didn't display omniscience in doing so... The bots' only weakness with spy seems to be that they can't play it. I haven't tried anything but the normal watch, tho. DR or CD might trick 'em still.
