This weekend we're going to have a lot of new players on the server, and I'm going to push for them to favorite the server and to join the forum. Expanding the community, getting a larger playerbase, et cetera. This thread is for them.
Welcome, new players! Glad you made it all the way here. I'm FadedOasis, the main admin of the "My Kids Won't Eat Art" server. I do most of the work on it. Here's a quick guide to everything you need to know.
tf2manual.net/
This manual is made by the TF2 community, and it covers most of what you need to know to play TF2. The in-game training helps, but it's very limited.
wiki.tf2.com/
A wiki that has everything you'll need to know.
The MKWEA server runs five main map types:
__Attack/Defend - In these maps, BLU is trying to capture a series of control points, while RED is trying to defend them. Then the teams switch sides. (Dustbowl is an example of an Attack/Defend map.)
__Standard Control Points - Both teams are trying to capture the points while holding off the other team from advancing. These maps commonly have five points, and the maps are laid out linearly.
__Capture the Flag - Both teams have an intelligence briefcase that they have to defend from the other team. When you pick up the intelligence, make your way back to your intel room to capture.
__King of the Hill - One capture point at the center of the map. When a team captures a point, their clock begins to tick from three minutes down to zero. Once that team's clock reaches zero, if they fully own the point, they win.
__Payload - BLU has to push a bomb-cart deep into RED's base. Then the teams switch sides.
Quick tips that rude players might be yelling about:
__- If you are defending a point, try to stand within the capture zone. The attacking team cannot capture if you are there.
__- Certain maps can be confusing. If you ever get lost, look around the walls for a sign that tells you where to go. (On cp_steel, an Attack/Defend map, the points are not set up linearly. Look at the chalkboard in the spawn room for which points you need to go to.)
__- The tips that are on the bottom of the loading screen can be very helpful. Read them often.
__- Ask people for help! Most of the server regulars are very willing to help a new player learn the game.
I'll post more later, I just want to get this up quickly. If you have any questions, feel free to post here, and I'll answer them when I get the chance.
