Faded asked somebody to post about this and I figured that I ought to since I brought it up! Many many updates back, Valve added in the option to have a ding sound play whenever you get a hit. If you don't have this enabled, you really should because it's very helpful. It's in the options menu, under multiplayer/advanced. It's something like "play sound on hit," towards the bottom. Also while you're in there you should turn on floating damage numbers, those are also helpful. Somebody on the server earlier was wishing that there was a way to get Quake-style hit sounds that changed in pitch depending on the amount of damage you've done. I don't know anything about Quake, but as it turns out there actually is a way to do this in TF2! And you don't need any fancy scripts because it's in the game already! Oh boy! The commands are tf_dingaling_pitchmindmg "pitch" and tf_dingaling_pitchmaxdmg "pitch". So for example, mine looks like this: tf_dingaling_pitchmindmg "200" tf_dingaling_pitchmaxdmg "50" The lower the number, the lower the pitch. I don't know if there are any limits to either value because it was a while ago that I did this. I like those values because for big hits you get a very satisfying, meaty sound, and afterburn and small hits don't get too annoying. Experiment with it a little to find something you like. Just put those into the console and you should be set, or you can put it in your config.cfg if you're a hardcore dude. You can also get custom dingalings, but I don't really know anything about that. There's a whole site about those if you're in to that kind of thing.

Thanks xD! We were actually talking about this on the server and some people were saying how they get very annoying when playing Heavy or Pyro.
I love them for soldier or for Meelee fights, they come in real handy not just for feelin' good when you know you hit something.
I wonder though, if there is a way to set the time in between them? Like the Y amount of dings that can happen in X times?

Question. Why is your max pitch lower than your min pitch? O.o

Thanks xD! We were actually talking about this on the server and some people were saying how they get very annoying when playing Heavy or Pyro. I actually find it pretty handy as a pyro, because it lets you know how long your afterburn is lasting and if somebody who's run away found a health pack. Hearing a shitload of dings after ambushing a group is nice too. I wonder though, if there is a way to set the time in between them? Like the Y amount of dings that can happen in X times? As far as I know, there isn't in the game, but maybe some kind of script would do this. I doubt it though. Question. Why is your max pitch lower than your min pitch? O.o Sorry, I should have explained this better. "pitchmaxdmg" sets the pitch for high damage, like backstabbing a heavy or something. "pitchmindmg" sets the pitch for low damage, like afterburn. I don't really know the exact values for max and min damage.

I find it handy all the time.
When playing demo, I don't know how people go without it. You sometimes never know if you're hitting someone/something from around the corner, you're just guessing, and it's a waste of ammo and time.

I wonder though, if there is a way to set the time in between them? Like the Y amount of dings that can happen in X times? Yes, but not without the "wait" command, which is buggy and crashes you on half the servers you are likely to play on. Which is good, because most scripts using the "wait" command are borderline hax. Well you could do it another way to, but it's too powerful and I'm not telling anyone how <: I'm also never ever gonna use it, unless I really want to. It's mah sekret.
