If you're not familiar with Mafia/Werewolf, check this thread for some basic information. Specific information is given below, and is probably more than you will need, but so long as you have a grasp of the basics, you should be fine. Of course, if anyone has questions, they are free to ask!
The Story
MKWEA-ville is normally such a quiet place. A happy town, full of law-abiding citizens. Until recently, that is. Rumors have been flying that a gang of underhanded crooks have set up a criminal enterprise in this normally pleasant village. Thus, it is with no small amount of suspicion that the townsfolk have gathered in the town square to search out the evildoers that would disrupt their peaceful way of life.
The Rules
You need not have played before to join this game; the roles are reasonably straightforward, and will be covered below. In this game, the days will last for 72 hours, and nights for 24 hours. As the game progresses, the lengths of the day and night cycles may be changed, although notification will be given in the game thread if this happens. During the day, players will vote for one person to be lynched. In the event of a tie, no lynch will occur. Each night, the Mafia may select one player to night-kill, and other night powers may be used at this time. Except for communication during the night phase between mafia members, NO OTHER IN-GAME DISCUSSION via PMs is permitted! In-game discussion in this thread (not counting random banter and idle chit-chat) during the night phase forbidden, and no votes may be cast. If you have night powers, but do not PM me with your choice, no action will be taken.
When a player is killed or lynched, their alignment (town or mafia) and role (if any) will be revealed. Once a player is killed, they may not continue to participate in the thread (although a farewell post, not containing in-game information) is permitted.
Each player may vote for one other player at a time, or vote "no-lynch", to vote for not lynching any player that day.
All votes should be placed using bold, and preferably in blue, using the following format:
vote Heller
To remove your vote from somebody, use bold and preferably red like this:
unvote or unvote Heller
Questions to me about rule clarifications should be placed in bold green so that they catch my attention easily. (Of course, if you forget to do this, I'll be reading the thread anyway, and will still try to answer, provided I notice.)
The Roles
This game is designed for up to 12 people. If there are fewer than 12 players, some of the roles listed below may not be included. Because I'm trying to make the game newbie-friendly, I'll probably specify what roles (if any) are being dropped, prior to the game start. I may not, though...we'll see.
A note about the win conditions: unless otherwise specified (and there are no such specifications in this particular game) you win when your condition is met EVEN IF you are DEAD. You need not survive the entire game to win. This is the general rule for most Mafia/Werewolf games.
Vanilla Townsperson: You are a law-abiding citizen of MKWEA-ville. You have no special powers. During the day, you may discuss and vote with other players to lynch one person you think is a member of the Mafia. You do not take any actions during the night. You win when all members of the Mafia are killed.
Detective: You are also a law-abiding citizen of MKWEA-ville. During the day, you may hold discussions and vote just like a Vanilla Townie. At night, however, your keen detective training allows you to investigate one other player, and determine their alignment, town or mafia (exception: see Godfather below). There is a maximum of one Detective in this game. You win when all members of the Mafia are killed.
Doctor: Another upstanding citizen of MKWEA-ville, you are just like a Vanilla Townie during the day, but at night your medical expertise allows you to target any one player (including yourself). If that player is targeted by the mafia that night, they will be protected from harm. There is a maximum of one Doctor in this game. You win when all members of the Mafia are killed.
Mafia: You are a crook. You've moved into MKWEA-ville with the intention of taking it over as a safe-haven for your criminal enterprises. If only those blasted Townies didn't stand in your way. During the day, you may discuss and vote for lynches just like any other player. During the night, however, you and your teammates may collaborate and choose a player to be killed. You may submit this choice to me via PM before the night ends. You win when all townspeople have been killed. (By extension, you also win when the total number of remaining mafia is greater-than or equal-to the number of remaining townspeople.)
Godfather: You aren't just a crook, you're the HEAD crook. You've moved into MKWEA-ville with the intention of taking it over as a safe-haven for your criminal enterprises. If only those blasted Townies didn't stand in your way. You are just like any other Mafia member with one exception: because of your extensive criminal skills at forgery and disguise, if the detective investigates you, he will get a result of Town-aligned. There is a maximum of one Godfather in this game. You win when all townspeople have been killed. (By extension, you also win when the total number of remaining mafia is greater-than or equal-to the number of remaining townspeople.)
