Here's a new thread about this because I didn't want to necro an old one. Some of us have Magic: The Gathering cards. Some of us have internet access. Some of us have webcams. Some of us have desks. Some of us put all this together and play Magic: The Gathering over the internet by pointing our webcams at our desks. Some of us are: .: sora FadedOasis FiveAlarmAwesomeSauce Heller
Melonater Man (consider him phased out) Rhench Vultanphase XaderaWe don't all play at once, it's just whoever is online at the time. If you'd like to join in our next game, post in this thread. Some things you'll need: - The personal-use (free) version of VSee. - A headset or headphones (to reduce echo). - Some free time. /me stares at sora

So, here are the rules to the Dance variant of Magic, that you guys were asking me about last night:
1) Dance decks must be highlander. 2) The decks must consist of exactly 10 creature cards and 10 non-creature cards of each color, plus artifacts. (For a total of 120 non-land cards. No more, no less.) 2b) No multi-color cards. 3) Lands are up to you. You may include non-basic lands (keeping in mind rule 1). 4) Games are played from 100 life, instead of the standard 20. 5) The winner of a Dance game is named the Dance Commander.

Quick thought on a tweak to the Dance color-limits rule to make it more friendly to modern Magic: 2) The decks must consist of exactly 10 creature cards and 10 non-creature cards of each of the following: white; blue; black; red; green; colorless non-land. (Colored artifacts are not colorless.) 2a) If you add a multicolored card, choose one of its colors. It counts as only that color for purposes of deck construction. (Example: Wrecking Ball can count as either black or red, but not both.) 2b) No cheating the color-restrictions thing. (No Hybrid or Phyrexian mana.) This way we allow for Multicolored cards (which have become a lot more popular in recent sets) and kill the loophole of colored artifacts. Thoughts?

I prefer Heller's rules on multicolor cards. I just put nearly all my colored artifacts and multicolor cards that I want to use into my 200 some odd card Hilander deck anyway, so I'm fine to try his way.
Also, Rule 5 is great.

I've just found out some corrected rules for the Dance. The revised rules are as follows (I'm adopting Faded's suggestion re: colored artifacts): 1) Dance decks must be highlander. 2) The decks must consist of exactly 10 creature cards and 10 non-creature cards of each color, plus artifacts. (For a total of 120 non-land cards. No more, no less.) 2a) Multi-color cards count as one of their color types, not each. (Example: Wrecking Ball can count as either black or red, but not both.) 2b) No cheating the color-restrictions thing. (No Hybrid or Phyrexian mana.) 3) The number of each type of basic lands is up to you. You need not have exactly 10 of each type. NO non-basic lands are allowed. 4) Games are played from 100 life, instead of the standard 20. 5) The winner of a Dance game is named the Dance Commander.

He is. Next time, he'll have to start from 100 like the rest of us, though.

Congratulations to Faded on being the new Dance Commander. Also, that may have been the best Magic game of my life. And for a 4 hour game over webcam that I didn't win, that's saying something.

None, to the best of my knowledge. We sometimes play a variant that has its own rules called "Dance". Heller's post above describes those rules. Even some Unhinged or Unglued cards make it into decks from time to time, so long as they aren't overly asinine. Crazy can be okay at times, but tread with caution there.

Probably looking to get some game on this Wednesday, around 7PM Eastern, if you want to go ahead and translate that to whatever is relevant for you and go until we all decide "Fuck this noise it's like a billion AM"
