So a lot of invites got sent out yesterday.I know El A and myself both got one, but we have no idea what's going on.
Who is up for a private match tomorrow night between MKWEA people so we can learn what the hell we're doing? Ideally, we'd split the power levels up so each team would have some experienced players and some total noobs.
I'm in. Skill level: WTF is Dota?

I'm super interested in this. Unfortunately, there's not too many people i know that have Dota2. Unfortunately Unfortunately (yes, two), my kid limits my capability to play to times where she's completely asleep, and she's just been fed. That being said, it was fun getting rolled by those bots last night Faded. I don't know whether we just got a short draw or what, but I've never seen the bots be so fucking useless. We were doing well in our lane, so I know it wasn't us.
I'm in skill level: Experienced, but FAR from competitive
I know the heroes, I know most of the items (the ones that are different from HoN still throw me occasionally.), and I know the general strategies and laning procedures.

Some day I'll get a DotA key, but before that I'll have to fix my videocard. But, some time soon, hopefully, yeah.

I made a thing so we can find each other easier. steamcommunity.com/groups/mkweadotaFeel free to join even if you're interested in Dota 2 but don't have access to the game yet. You just won't be an officer (and have benefits like creating events) until you get a copy.

Hey, we have a lot of people now. Let's get a big game going.
This Sunday. 9pm EDT. MKWEA vs MKWEA, with bots filled in to round out the teams. And we'll try to split up teams based on skill level.
I'll make the lobby. Password will be "mkwea".

Dogwelder posted in a thread he made:
Uh, Last Hit a lot? Stay near creep combat, try to last hit and deny as much as possible. (For really new players: The last person to hit an enemy/creep/tower before it dies gets an XP+gold bonus. To deny means to kill your own team's creep so someone on the other team doesn't get the Last Hit.)

As far as I know, you dont get more XP for last hitting, so as long as you're staying in xp range you're at least getting something. Getting your creeps denied will still give you SOME xp, but not nearly as much: ranged heroes get 33% xp per deny, melee heroes get 66%. Also, remember that more allied heroes in your lane means the xp is getting shared between more people, which can also put you at a level disadvantage. Worse than getting denied is having the enemy creeps die outside xp range, since you'll get zero xp for that. The enemy team can do this by pulling their lane ( Video Definition and explanation how to perform here.) Naturally, you don't want the other heroes denying creeps, but sometimes there's nothing you can do about it. In those cases, you're going to have to ask for a gank on your lane in order to at minimum force the enemy heroes to back off for a bit (or at maximum, spend some time in their pool being dead). Speaking of being sent back to the pool, it's absolutely critical to your leveling that you stay in lane as much as possible early on. This will prevent the other team from gaining levels on you, making it that much easier for them to kill you early, making you that much further behind on levels, etc. into a feeding cycle which is really hard to break. That's why starting items are hugely important. Items like Tangos, Healing Salves, and (depending on the hero), Clarities (Mana Potions) are so critical to buy at the start of the game. Here's a good video for initial item builds from Purge, who's very good at explaining the needs of different hero types. Purge has an entire series of videos, which I usually watch when looking into new heroes and how to item them. Responding to Faded, I'll check with the missus if I can do Sunday night (with her watching the kid if she wakes up to prevent me leaving mid game). And lastly, or maybe I should put this first, I picked up two passes in the latest series of Valve handouts. It looks like most people in this thread have already gotten invites aside from phev, so... Phev if you still want a key lemme know, and one other guy lemme know. First to respond and all that gets dibs for the open one, hence the early morning post (not really, kid got hungry and I wake up to feed her on the weekends). EDIT: added xp sharing between allied heroes

I wanted to separate this into a separate post, so I did. On average, how many creeps per wave are you last hitting? If you can break that out further, how much better do you do on an unopposed lane (no enemy heroes, but still a creep wave)? Naturally on an unopposed lane, you should practice getting nearly every last hit (around 9 out of 10 every 2 waves). It's very important to get a feel for your hero's base attack speed and damage, and projectile speed for ranged heroes. Blarg, some good Dota resources: The Dota2 wiki - Lots of good information about the heroes abilities and items as well as giving the suggested item builds from in the game. Purge's Youtube channel - Purge goes into a lot of details, and plays games specifically with each hero to explain the items he's getting for the hero, as well as generally how to play each hero. He also has some vids for general gameplay tips, which are very handy for starting out.

I would certainly be interested in that key, Brian! I was kind of resigned to waiting for the release at this point, but a key now is even better. I’ll have to see if I have the bandwidth left to download it this month, but if I do I’ll see about making it to the Big Game tomorrow night.
Skill level: much more LoL than I'd like to admit, for what little that is worth.
