What a wonderful birthday present! Thank you, Valve!www.teamfortress.com/mvm/Edit: Oh god. As the owner of a server with an actual community, this is a terrible birthday present. Scroll down a few posts to read why.

Yay robots! Wait, you can't play as the robots. Also, A fate worse than Chess was pretty amazing.

Oh, shit, there's a huge problem here. Here's an email from Valve:
MvM is a new game server type, kinda like how Arena mode completely changes everything server-side. It's six-versus-bots. Not more than six, just six. Some sort of Dota-like matchmaking, which means we can't really use MKWEA as both a 24-man and a MvM server. The integration just isn't there. So it's actually worse than Arena in that aspect. Here are some options, none of them pleasant:
1. Switch MKWEA to an MvM server for a while, until MKWEA regulars get bored of it, then switch back to 24-man. Downside: People might get bored of it fast, only 6 people on at a time. A lot of work on my end.
2. Stay 24-man for now. Upside: No work on my end. Downside: Everyone leaves to play MvM, server will commonly be empty, lazy way out.
3. Buy another server for MvM. Upside: We get the ability to choose what we do. Downside: Splitting MKWEA community up, a bit of work to start up, twice as much work to maintain, costs money that we don't have.
4. We figure out a way to do schedule MvM a few days a week. "MvM Thursdays" or something. Upside: We get to play both games while not splitting the community. Downside: Players 7-24 who are trying to join will be left out, SO MUCH MORE WORK TO MAINTAIN.
5. Something I haven't thought of.
Help, guys. What do you want?

Probably the best way would be to just leave the server as-is. We will split off in groups and find servers to play on. It's going to be hell trying to organize and jam everyone into a dedicated mkwea server.

I say leave it as-is, there will still be people wanting to play vanilla TF2 (at least after a week or so) and I'm sure plenty of other servers will be going to MVM. I think most of the Valve servers will be converting, at least temporarily. Meanwhile, to tide you over until tonight's update, here's a little AMA with a few people who playtested this. They go over how the upgrades work, how the bots work, how some of the gameplay is different, and so on. Personally, I'm excited to play with weapons that would be super overpowered and obnoxious in normal play. They mention using the Scottish Resistance with a short arming time, which sounds pretty rad.

I also think that the server should be left as is. I just think the trouble wouldn't be worth it. Although i also wouldn't be apposed to having occasional MvM events. Maybe not once a week though.

Wheeze sent me a whole bunch of info via Steam messages. Most of the relevant stuff is in this message:
Okay, so since MvM requires a 32-player server anyway, we can't run it on MKWEA. This narrows down the options to "keep as-is," "Pay more temporarily to make MKWEA a 32-man server (keeping the player limit at 24 for normal TF2)," or "Run two servers." We don't have anywhere near the money for two servers, and I'm not too fond of paying $32/month for a 6-man game type.
So yeah, the extra cost of going MvM plus the four* recommendations of keeping the server as-is? I think we have a decision.
Thanks for your feedback, guys, and thank you Wheeze, for all the information.
*Vultan sent me his recommendation for keeping MKWEA as-is in a steam message

Even though you've already decided, I'd just like to say I concur.
Also, OUCH! I was thinking about mostly playing MvM solo (not that I planned on winning, but just playing), but I'm not sure my computer could handle that many bots. Things start to chug on mine if I add more than 12..

Those are very odd server requirements, considering the game was designed around 24-man servers. Then again, hats.

Any word on when this whole robot thing is happening (aside from the vague 'today')?

Well, it's a hyped update, with its own update pages, so based on previous class updates, around 8pm Pacific so Valve employees can go home, and then a bugfix update tomorrow.
