Fire no longer burns continuously Jeziah. You'll have to use Netherrack, which means you'll have to either be on a server that has a link to another server which uses the Nether, or convince an admin to flip the server over to Nether mode, making a permanent ring of Fallout-style wasteland in whatever new areas you travel to.

Or just convince your server admin to install a nether plugin for Bukkit. Speaking of mods, pistons. I think Jeb has expressed interest in adding this mod to the game, so that's pretty exciting.

That piston mod makes me wonder... is obsidian the only thing that stops the pushing? I mean, if you place a bunch of pistons against a cliff, will it move the entire mountain? What if you're doing it under ground; would it shift an entire layer of blocks? It seems like it could be very, very bad XD
Plus I don't see many practical applications for the piston XD Except potentially opening and shutting water valves, which could be particularly interesting.

Pistons will only move 16 blocks, and unless you've got a setup that's generating new blocks it can only move things 1 block. They can't move obsidian or other pistons, and possibly some other block too I don't really know. There are a tons of applications. Sliding doors. Awesome hidden doors. Hidden bridges. Collapsible bridges. Neat lighting effects and switches. You could use them to build absurd reed generators, a la the absurd cactus generators. A farm that could be completely harvested by pressing a button. Traps. Elevators. Etc. etc. You gotta use your ~imagination~

lol, ok, those are actually pretty cool. As long as it has that 16 block maximum, it doesn't seem as bad to me. It would still take some work figuring out how to manage those things, but so does any complex redstone circuit, so it's not too bad.
